9/21/2025 International Day of Peace

Thanks for all who joined us for the International Day of Peace on Sunday, September 21st.

Activities included a film screening, presentations and workshops, musical performances and sing along, arts activities, potluck dinner and speaker.  Whether you could join us or not, enjoy some pictures from the event below and we hope that you can join us for a future event.

This event was sponsored by Frederick Friends Meeting (FFM), Grace United Church of Christ (Grace UCC), and the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ (ERUCC).  This year’s theme is “Act Now For a Peaceful World.”  You can learn more about the International Day of Peace at https://internationaldayofpeace.org/.  This year’s theme emphasizes the role that each of us can play in creating a culture of peace.

“In a time of turbulence, tumult, and uncertainty, it is critical for everyone to take concrete action to mobilize for peace. From peacekeepers on the front lines of conflict, to community members, to students in classrooms around the world, everyone has a role to play. We must speak up against violence, hate, discrimination, and inequality; practice respect; and embrace the diversity of our world.”

Schedule for the Day — Join us for all or part of the day

1:30 – 3: “There Is Another Way” film at ERUCC

3-4:  presentations and workshops at ERUCC

4-6:  Musical performances/sing along; arts activities at Baker Park

6-8:  Return to ERUCC for potluck dinner

There is Another Way –  is a documentary film about Combatants for Peace – emotional subject matter not appropriate for children

Combatants for Peace, nominated for two Nobel Peace Prizes, is an extraordinary bi-national group of former enemy combatants – Israelis and Palestinians – working together during an ongoing armed conflict. Faced with the devastation and escalating violence of October 7th and the war in Gaza, the very core of the movement must face great challenges and show that there is another way. The first question they have to face is their own belief…is this possible?”
